At Palmview SSC, we are shaping curriculum structures that will set a new standard for education as we collectively strive to empower independent learners. Our partnerships with students and parents are founded in curiosity, collaboration,
creativity and a commitment to learning. This shared belief that all students can learn underpins a culture that supports our students to be confident, creative and aspirational about their future.
By acknowledging and respecting every student’s inherent differences, we strive to equip our future generations with the flexibility and agility they need to achieve their own personal bests. Grounded in adolescent development research, the Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing framework or 'weave' creates pathways to personal bests through organisation of the curriculum in Excellence Institutes enhanced by the Learning Cooperative and enacted through pedagogies reflective of developmental Learning Stages.
Excellence institutes
All students are provided the opportunity to immerse themselves in the eight learning areas of the Australian Curriculum. Beginning with the end in mind, our personal best priority is underpinng the alignment of this foundational learning with the pathways through the senior years. Our Excellence Institutes provide our junior students opportunity to experience and explore all learning areas. They also provide a clarity of possible future pathways, whilst also enabling specialisation in targeted curriculum extension and excellence. Through consultation and partnership, our Institute leaders will continue to grow the opportunities available for our students.
Our Institutes are:
- The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STEAM) Institute
- The Creative and Cultural Pursuits Institute
- The Health and Wellbeing Institute
- The Global Learners Institute
Learning cooperative
Driven by the afore mentioned partnerships and the shared belief that all students can learn, the Learning Cooperative will see resources allocated to inclusively respond to individual student need. A cooperative is a partnership between the student, their families and our staff to shape responsive plans that will enable our learners to access, engage and excel in their learning across all facets of school life. Through recognition of the inherit differences of each learner, the purpose of the learning cooperative is to facilitate personalised enhancements that through collective effort build on the strengths of our learners as they strive to achieve a personal best.
Learning stages
Progression from Year 7 to Year 12 at Palmview is based on an understanding that student learning progresses through key developmental stages of experiencing, exploring, navigating, and mastering the curriculum. Shaping curriculum through these learning stages enables a responsiveness to the diversity of rates of student progression to individual personal best. Units within each course at Palmview will be written to align with these learning stages.
